How to choose countertop adhesive

Start with the surface and joint design, then confirm colour, working conditions and the complete dispensing system.

Choose countertop adhesive by the exact surface material and the job the joint must do. A rigid seam between matching countertop pieces, a movement joint next to a wall and a connection to a support frame are different applications. Cartridge size and colour come after that first decision.

This guide is for fabricators, distributors and purchasing teams comparing KONGDER products. It is a selection checklist; the applicable technical data sheet (TDS), safety data sheet (SDS) and surface manufacturer's fabrication instructions govern the job.

1. Identify the surface and the joint

Record the surface manufacturer, material family, colour name or code, finish and thickness. “White countertop” is not enough information: acrylic solid surface, engineered quartz, porcelain and natural stone can need different preparation and product selection.

  • Solid surface seams: start with the KONGDER solid surface adhesive range, then confirm suitability for the exact sheet and joint.
  • Quartz, porcelain, sintered stone or natural stone: use the joint adhesive range as a product enquiry starting point. Share the specific material and application for confirmation.
  • Movement joints, dissimilar materials or support connections: ask for an application-specific recommendation. A seam adhesive should not be assumed to replace a flexible sealant, mechanical fixing or engineered support.

A material brand may require its own approved adhesive or fabrication system to maintain a warranty. Check that requirement before substituting any product; a colour match alone is not evidence of brand approval.

2. Check the conditions that affect fabrication

Tell the supplier whether the work is performed in a controlled workshop or on site. Record the expected application temperature, joint geometry, assembly sequence and whether several seams must be positioned together. Ask for the working time and cure guidance for the chosen product under those conditions.

Do not transfer a cure-time number from another brand, another adhesive or a different temperature to your job. Separate the time available for assembly from the point at which a joint may be unclamped, machined or placed into service. Confirm each requirement in the current TDS.

3. Approve the colour on a representative sample

Use the exact surface colour reference and, where practical, a physical offcut from the project. A screen image is useful for an initial discussion but is not a reliable final colour approval. Pattern, lighting, finish and seam placement can all change how a joint appears.

Make and inspect a cured trial seam before a production order. Our colour matching guide explains what to send and what to record.

4. Specify the dispensing system together

KONGDER lists 50ml, 75ml, 250ml and 490ml adhesive formats. Capacity alone does not establish tool compatibility. Confirm cartridge geometry, component ratio, piston arrangement and mixer connection with the supplier. Use the cartridge and accessory guide to prepare the enquiry.

5. Send a useful procurement brief

  • Surface brand, material, colour code and a representative sample.
  • Joint purpose, dimensions, finish and workshop or site conditions.
  • Preferred cartridge format and photos or references for existing tools.
  • Trial quantity, expected repeat volume and delivery destination.
  • Required TDS, SDS, labelling and any project-specific approval requirements.

Request a quotation for the specified product and destination. MOQ, lead time, shipping arrangements and availability should be confirmed for the order rather than inferred from a general guide.

Technical context

The Wilsonart solid surface fabrication manual illustrates why preparation, dispensing and clamping belong to a defined fabrication procedure. It describes that manufacturer's system; it does not certify or approve KONGDER products.
